on instagram, i shared a video from a farm of a cow happily running in the fields. a friend of mine replied to the story with a hamburger emoji.
what makes someone do this?
can a person like cows, pigs, and chickens?
okay... baby chicks and baby cows are cute during... easter? oh that's right, there's also miniature pig cafes here in tokyo. miniature pig? oh right, a baby pig that hasn't reached adulthood yet.
those are cute and people pay money to go see them. okay, so maybe pigs can be people's friends, just like dogs are? but i told my family that i want to own a pig, but they laughed at me.
so i can't own a pig? but i saw a man on the street walking a giant pig. people stopped and took pictures. if they took pictures, they must have thought it was cool?
he's friends with a pig, so why can't i?
okay, i got it. pay to see them at pig cafes, before they are adopted to go be slaughtered.
hmm, who benefits from this?
are the farmers leasing the pigs to the pig cafes? i bet they see this as precious time where the pigs could be putting on pounds. but it's okay, i'm sure they're making a ton, and the cafe menu looks good. no bacon though, right?
if i take a picture of my pet pig, will you reply with a bacon emoji?
i have a friend in nagano who has a pet duck. i read a comment one time under its picture: “Looks delicious.” the commenter said.
my friend replied, “He is our friend, not food.”
hmm. i've posted pictures of my horses on instagram, but never received a comment saying “Looks delicious.” well, my mother's bumper sticker says, “Americans don't eat horses.”
okay, well recently, yes, I suppose. tell me what happened before the wild horse law enacted in the 1970s. they killed them, but did they eat them?
tell me what's the difference?
hmm, let's see. does anywhere actually eat horses? oh! japan. such savages! but at least they're not eating dogs like in vietnam, south korea, china, or india? such savages!
and the hindus from india: “At least we're not eating cows... like americans! such savages!”
bahahahah
so where were we?
are you guys still vegan?
friends ask every time i see them.
yes, we are. but we were staying with friends and i ate fish a few times, or things with fish in them, just to make it easier on our hosts, who were putting together a reunion for us when we came to stay with them.
“a crab boiling alive? that's just cruel, i could never do that.”
i think to myself... wait, but how are pigs, chickens, cows, lamb killed?
and what if you don't watch the crab be boiled alive, but the restaurant does it for you?
no, i'm sorry. i'm a bad vegan.
"eat butter! eat steak! we've been lied to about heart disease and saturated fats. it's the seed oils that are killing everyone! the food pyramid is flipped. south park was right!"
i want to get off the internet.
